Wine Making
The Craft Behind Each Vintage
The Character of Each Vintage
At Château La Hourqueyre, every vintage is shaped by a unique combination of soil, climate and season.
Sun, rain, wind and time leave their mark on the grapes and give each year its own expression. Rather than imposing a predefined style, we seek to reveal the character of the vintage as faithfully as possible.
Our role is to accompany this living process with precision, patience and respect.
Respecting the Fruit
The grapes are harvested in the cool hours of the morning at it’s peak maturity and carefully selected before entering the cellar.
They are then gently conveyed to our concrete and stainless-steel vats. This gravity-fed process limits unnecessary handling and helps us preserve the integrity of the berries.
Fermentation and maceration are closely monitored in order to extract colour, aroma and structure with precision, while retaining freshness, purity of fruit and balance.
For selected cuvées, we also use Vinification Intégrale in single and double French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop greater depth and complexity without losing its natural expression.
At every stage, our aim is the same: to guide the wine with restraint and to intervene only where necessary.
From Terroir to Wine
Every wine we produce begins with the same ambition: to capture the identity of a particular place and a particular year.
Some parcels reveal remarkable individuality and become our Sélections Parcellaires, expressing the distinctive character of a single vineyard. Others contribute to our Grand Vin, inspired by the great tradition of the Médoc and crafted to reflect both elegance and longevity.
Although each cuvée has its own personality, they all share the same philosophy: careful vineyard work, respectful winemaking and the pursuit of purity rather than power.
Whatever the cuvée, our approach remains simple: respect the fruit, respect the vintage and allow the terroir to speak.
